The International Network of Basin Organizations (INBO), a recognized actor of the international water community, will document the debate during the 9th edition of the World Water Forum, which will be held in Dakar from 21 to 26 March, whose central topic, "Water Security for Peace and Development" echoes its priorities of action for nearly 30 years.

The INBO will organize and participate in more than 20 exchange sessions on water security and climate, Integrated Water Resources Management (IWRM) at the level of river basins, cooperation, and water data sharing.

With its partners, INBO will also carry out 2 calls for signatures to make this Forum a real space for diagnosis, but also a place for proposals for actions and commitments of the States, international organizations and stakeholders of the civil society

« For two years, INBO and its technical Secretary, OiEau, have been actively involved in mobilizing the water community around this crucial meeting, which will enable to provide tracks of concrete actions around major stakes, such as the need to develop a shared use of water resources, the use of Nature-based Solutions to improve the water resources and risks management, or the stakeholders' networks strengthening. »
Eric Tardieu, INBO Secretary General.

A call for signatures for water and ecological security

INBO will also mobilize around the high-level panel on water and ecological security on Wednesday 23 March, with the call for signatures of the Declaration: "No water security without ecological security, No ecological security without water security". Launched last September at the IUCN World Conservation Congress in Marseille (France), it promotes a reflection in favour of the implementation of public policies integrating the objectives of sustainable development of water resources and preservation of biodiversity.

A focus on IWRM at the basin level

This 9th edition will include a high-level political segment specifically dedicated to basins ("basin segment") on Thursday 24 March, a first in the history of the Forums! INBO is particularly mobilized in its organization. It will lead it, together with the Organisation for the Development of the Senegal River (OMVS), in order to emphasize the crucial character of the integration of sustainable cooperation policies, at the level of national and transboundary basins, and to make this approach a top political priority at the United Nations Conference, scheduled for March 2023 in New York.

This segment will end with the call for signatures « Dakar Action Plan for River, Lake and Aquifer Basins » : more informations to come on D - 15 from the WWF.
