This side event will be an opportunity to discuss lessons learnt by the international river, lake and aquifer commissions in developing cooperation of riparian countries on the management of transboundary surface and ground waters.
In particular, the moderated panel discussion will address the roles of international commissions in joint planning and implementation of transboundary cooperation, ensuring exchange of information, preventing differences and disputes, and financing cooperation in transboundary basins (surface and ground waters), and addressing new challenges.
The panel discussion is expected to contribute to cross-fertilization of experiences between the commissions involved, as well as to inspire the work under these and other joint bodies.
